With reference to the above webpage about parents opening a school for children in a village who travel to 20 different schools, which are more than 3 miles away! I think it’s great that the parents have been granted the opportunity to build the school, as children won’t need to travel so far and also create jobs for teachers! However small village schools are being closed due insufficient numbers of children! In my opinion, schools should be equal with numbers of children, so all children get the same amount of support from the teacher! I have taught a class with 38 children, which meant it was difficult to support each child on a one to one level!

I think all schools need to be different – just as all teachers are different and all children are different. Small village schools are often the backbone of the community where social events etc happen. There is no perfect equal number of children in a school- what about those big schools which have been built or the medium-sized schools which are all around – Education has so many issues to deal with maybe money should be putting into manning schools – teachers , experienced and trained Teaching assistants to give all pupils whether in a smll school or a large school the best start in their lives – because we need to value every school and for the experiences they offer -

I think it’s a great idea for parents to be involved so closely in building and creating their own school, as long as they don’t have ultimatre control as in Canada, where a teacher’s life can be made a misery by parents with too much power !

It doesn’t sound a bad idea and I am all for PARTNERSHIP, but as Cyn says, I think it could be quite tricky if parents have the final say. Thinking of other areas of the public sector, I wouldn’t expect to have ultimate control of my doctor’s surgery or the fire service, for example, because I don’t know/appreciate the intricacies of running such establishments. I know parents want the best for their children – so do the teachers! An equal partnership would seem a better position all round.
