Forum Topic: Downloading Resources

Topic started by: daisie at 17 October 2007 - 21:32

Hi! First, This is such a great idea… and looks great so far! I have a quick question about downloading some of the resources on the site, in particular the interactive ones – some of them I can access with no problems, but others I’m having problems with. It seems that although I can see a link to which magazine issue the resource appeared in, and I can click to save it to my folder, I can’t actually seem to open or save the actual resource? I hope that made more sense. I’m so looking forward to using these superb activities, I hope you can help!

Thanks in advance.

Yes I am having difficulties too. I have used the Pirate Ship and other interactive screens from the site before before it was updated and all I had to do was click on the pic, but I have just tried to access the Advent Calendar and although there is an icon for the calendar it does not seem to do anything? Help!

Sorry – just thought I’d add another problem. I’m having problems finding sheets to go with the magazine – the maths problem ones. I’ve found the story’s but not the worksheets. Wondered if anyone else has managed to find them.

So sorry you’re experiencing problems. Hang in there and we’ll look into fixing things. The site only went live very recently and we are experiencing a few technical glitches. Really sorry. Don’t give up. We’ll look into these problems and fix them as soon as we can.

    Thanks,

    Helen

Mel—you have to look for the section ‘Use this resource’ for the download options, they vary by type of resource.

Belle - all the sheets/resources for an issue should be on that issue’s homepage in either ‘This month’s resources’ or ‘Other resources this month’ sections. As we are just starting out, some still have generic names like ‘Poster Front’ and ‘Poster Back’ - you might have to check a few of these.

LpoolLou—I think the easiest thing is just to use your browser’s ‘back’ button.

LpooLou – to use the calendar feature simply visit the home page and then see the purple calendar titled ‘This month’s calendar’ and click the text ‘View whole month’ that sits underneath the three calendar dates. This will take you through to view the whole month – and you can click forward to see future months to help you plan. Hope this helps. Thanks. Helen

Thanks for the prompt response. As I said in my original post, I think the new site is a wonderful idea and with all ‘off-line’ testing in the world, you can never find all the glitches until you go live! I was just pointing out one that would seem to have been missed, in that helpful way of mine! :o

    Dear Peter

I am still having problems I am afraid – has anyone actually opened the advent calendar? There is a ‘Use this resource’ at the bottom of the page but am unable to click on it. Mel

I can’t find the resources I used to be able to get to. Those from The old Juniors educations and Juniour topic. I have had to subscribe to JE+ because there is no topic anymore. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

As a subscriber to Nursery Education Plus, am I right in saying I can only view resources from that magazine? Most of the resources I am trying to view say that I don’t have the right subscription (eg) Child Eductation Plus. I was under the impression that as a subscriber we could access all resources.

Also, I am trying to access a resource from the Early Years Activity Bank but it won’t let me. When I try to subscribe to this publication it says that it has been discontinued but also says “So subscribe to Nursery Education PLUS to get the very best resources of Early Years Activity Bank at no extra cost!” As I already subscribe how do I get access to these resources. I have confirmed my membership and it shows my subscription on the screen to Nursery Education Plus.

    Hope you can help!

    Many thanks,

    Julie

Mel – there was a bad resource in there… the correct link to the advent calendar is http://magazines.scholastic.co.uk/resources/10092

    Sorry about this…

Hi, I’m also unable to find resources from past issues of child education.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The bank of resources for Child Education PLUS subscribers is made up, primarily of KS1 topic resources from Child Education Topics magazine. We have included posters, poster backs and photocopiable resources, worksheets and interactive resources from some back issues of Child Education and moving forward, all the resources from new issues of Child Education PLUS will automatically be added to the bank of resources you can access.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks

A great place to start looking for past issue resources is starting from our “Advanced search and archive” page http://magazines.scholastic.co.uk/search/new. You can find the link in the sidebar, under the search box.

From the “Advanced search and archive” page you can search by more criteria or you can “Browse magazine issues” and see over 2 years of back issue resources.

I loved the ‘old’ site – really can’t get to grips with this new one. The ‘plus’ just seems to mean plus frustration! it used to be so easy. I think I’ll simply use my magazines and blutac the various posters to a flip chart!

    Hi,

It’s such a shame you’re not finding the website easy to use. If you call our customer services team I’m sure someone will be able to help. The old site did offer you a nice simple way to scroll down through resources, but with so many more resources available online now, you’d be scrolling all day, so we introduced the search facility. Please do give us a call and we’ll do our best to help you out.

    Thanks,

Helen – Publishing Director Educational Magazines
