Primary children enjoy a ComputerXplorers ICT workshop
Year 5 children at Inglehurst Junior School are set to take part in a pioneering initiative to introduce them to curriculum-focused computer skills with a heavy emphasis on fun. On returning to school in the autumn term, around 60 nine and ten year olds at Inglehurst will have a weekly lesson where they will design and create their own video games while learning core IT skills based on the National Curriculum.
The course will run over a 12 week period and the children’s work will be professionally assessed. It is the first time such a scheme has been run in a Leicester City School.
Diane Taylor, Director of ComputerXplorers South Midlands, explains: ‘Inglehurst Junior School is very lucky to have a forward-thinking head teacher who is passionate about her students. She understands that transferable computer skills are essential and that the best way to motivate children to learn is to engage them with something that is relevant and exciting.’
Chris Glass, Head Teacher at Inglehurst Junior School, adds: ‘I know the children are going to enjoy this class immensely. Diane and ComputerXplorers have an excellent grasp of the National Curriculum requirements and have demonstrated that they can be brought to life in a stimulating way.’
ComputerXplorers runs classes to enhance the learning skills of children using programs and specifically designed curricula that are age and developmentally appropriate in pre-schools, nurseries, schools, after-school clubs and summer camps. Each session is strategically planned to cover a range of educational skills and subjects in a fun and inspirational way.
