Scholastic joins top publishers and libraries in new children’s reading scheme
Twelve top children’s publishers, including Scholastic, Walker, Random House and Puffin, have joined with The Publishers’ Association and the main children’s library bodies in a new scheme to encourage more children to read. The scheme, Children’s Reading Partners, which is to be led by The Reading Agency, was launched yesterday (13 May) at the Bookseller Association 2008 conference in Brighton. The partnership aims to develop relationships between publishers and libraries through online databases, young reading groups’ social networking sites and roadshows around the UK.

Commenting on the scheme, Director of the Reading Agency, Miranda McKearney, said: ‘It has huge potential to harness new publisher input so that children using libraries have really contemporary reading experiences. And equally huge potential to inject user innovation by helping publishers talk direct to young readers.’
