Funding cuts for after-school clubs
2 May 2008

Hundreds of primary schools in Northern Ireland are facing cuts in their breakfast and after-school clubs as funds are set to get dramatically reduced. Funding from the Extended Schools Programme has been cut from £10 million to £6 million. The clubs are vital to some schools and their pupils.
Basil McCrea, the Ulster Unionist Party’s education spokesperson, said that breakfast and after-school clubs are ‘more than just maths and English, it is about giving children one-on-one attention in many areas. It is a huge tragedy that these are being taken away.’
