Guidance launched to help spot deliberate burns on children
The NSPCC has produced a guide, Thermal Injuries on Children, to help professionals working with children to recognise signs of burns that could be as a result of abuse. The leaflet is available from NSPCC
New publication focuses on quality nursery education
The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) has published a new booklet Nursery Schools and Classes. This comes following research which revealed that teacher-led nursery education is vital in providing the best start for all young children, with children from disadvantages backgrounds benefiting the most.
Headteacher removed after sexual complaint
The headteacher of a school in Pembrokeshire, which provides education for three to 11-year-olds, has been arrested on sexual allegations. He has been the headteacher since the £11million ‘super school’ – the first in Wales to be part-funded by the private sector – opened in 2001.
New hairstyle gets child banned from nursery
A three-year-old boy in North Shields has been excluded from nursery after attending with ‘tramlines’ in his hair and has been told he cannot return until his hair has grown back. An investigation has been launched after his mother complained to the local educational authority.
International Fund backs ‘Respecting Difference’
Teachers, parents and pre-schools across Northern Ireland will receive diversity training and resource packs as part of the £1.1million ‘Respecting Difference’ Pre-School Programme. The programme is being developed and run by Early Years – the Organisation for Young Children.
