Local families join in an exciting exhibition-style event in Gateshead

Face Paint

Organised by Gateshead Council, the one day event called Childcare Choice, attracted a stream of interested parents, parents-to-be, childcare providers and potential new recruits as part of a fun, safe day.

Childcare Choice brought together everyone involved in the childcare process through a host of relevant exhibitors; seminar sessions; and loads of fun activities for the kids including face painting, a bouncy castle, crèche and balloon modelling.

Visitors to the free event were able to find out about the financial assistance available for childcare; how to access services; details on tax credits and voucher schemes; as well as an interesting programme of seminars.

Councillor Catherine Donovan, cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council said: “We know what a big issue childcare can be for people these days and the event proved a real success. I think it opened people’s eyes to the latest thinking in this area and enabled many parents to access the best possible advice. There are many options for parents in Gateshead and this event helped highlight what is available to working parents in Gateshead.”

The event was part of a new drive to raise awareness of the childcare options available in Gateshead and families can now contact a dedicated team at the council for free, unbiased advice on all their childcare options.

The Children’s Information Service at Gateshead Council can offer parents advice on a whole range of issues around childcare including nurseries and childminders.
