Budgets biggest worry for headteachers

Budgets remain a top priority among both primary and secondary headteachers

Budgets and staffing remain headteachers’ biggest worries, according to new research by the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER).
Headteachers from around 350 primary and 850 secondary schools took part in the Annual Survey of Trends in Education, which aims to show school leaders’ views on current issues in education.
The survey found that budgets remain a top priority among both primary and secondary headteachers. Other concerns included: the Every Child Matters agenda; supporting children in care; and extended school services, such as breakfast clubs.
The main difference between primary and secondary schools was that primary heads were more worried about the impact of inspections, while behaviour was a bigger concern for secondary headteachers.
